Every artist has their own technical and conceptual processes. This experiment at Oh Really Gallery, starting Friday 3rd allows each of the four artists (Joe Wilson, Chris Bennett, Joe Purtle and Claire Wieland) to experience the art making process from a different perspective from their standard practice. Weaving styles, methodology and intuition together, to potentially create a unified whole. This will occur during a continuous 30 hour working session, the duration of which is designed to remove the artists from their usual comfortable working conditions. The artists are using the walls, panels, and the floor as their canvas.
It is happening from NOW til 6pm Saturday 4th, if your walking around the around you should check it out. Jo and Claire also painted in the last Culture Jam @ Oh Really Gallery on the 11th June.
This thursday (the 11th) we bring you another culture jam, The night that combines improvised music with live action painting! this time its a little different to the last few events.
We have a trio called ergo. Ergo feature Violin Cello and guitar, The painting is a collab between two of our local talents Joe wilson and claire Weilan working with figurative painting and abstraction.
Both Claire and Joe are graduates of National Art School, and are very music people in themselves.. i think this comes through in the work they do, and thursday night should be very interesting.
Dont miss out. Culture Jam runs from 6 till 9 thurs. the 11th of june. at 55 enmore rd. newtown.
Simon Degroot’s work was seeded in the margins of his childhood school books. Animals, people, shapes composed the delicious naivety of those scribbles. Art in the margin.
Today the texta and pencil’s have switched to paints. There are no more classes or exercise books, but his imagination is still alive. His scribbling now runs wild in the colourful pages of his blackbook, and the vibrant surfaces of his canvas.
This new show consists of around 30 works 200 x 230mm and at $200ea. This is a must for anyone who knows of simons work, and a great opportunity to get to know it if you don’t.
