Artist Lock-In

July 14th, 2010 by admin

Friday the 16th of July sees Oh Really Gallery featuring its 3rd 24hr ‘Artist LOCK-IN’. Running from 12 noon, the art experiment will feature artists Joe Wilson, Daniel O’Toole, Joe Purtle, Yoko Purtle and Chanelle Collier.

The concept behind the ‘artist LOCK-IN’ is to test the artists’ limits in an intense collaborative experience. Generally the shared interest amongst the group is abstraction/mark making and the majority of the work no one artist could create. Its the culmination of ideas. So if you would like to drop by sometime on Friday night and see whats going on, please feel free. All welcome.

DRYPNZ & FOOTHEAD-exhibition

June 9th, 2010 by admin

‘Stopping-by’ is a joint exhibition that considers missed opportunities and reflects upon what has passed or what could have been. The complexity and layering of these works offer a platform for self questioning that is reinforced by unique and unusual styles. ‘Stopping-By’ feature the work of NZ based artists DRYPNZ and FOOTHEAD.

FOOTHEAD has been traveling back and forth from NZ to Australia for the past few years, living off nothing, trading the skin from his knuckles for tall stories and experiences to retell in his work. His illustrative style has developed into a grotesque rendition of the human form playing with the creatures that haunt our subconscious.

DRYPNZ on the other hand has stayed firmly in NZ. For the past five years he has been creating murals and street works that imitate experiences and those people around him. His characters are called Drypppls and expand on the notion, ‘the human race is in a state of devolution, revealing the human condition and our common traits.

‘Stopping-By’ opens on Thursday the 24th of June at Oh Really Gallery, 55 Enmore rd Newtown.

Show continues till Sunday 4th of July, open Friday-Sunday 11am-6pm.
