October 26th, 2008 by admin

We have the first solo show of the year on the 30th October.
Thats this coming thursday so wonder on in to “Oh Really Gallery”.

Baden Pailthorpe: Translocality book launch and exhibition.

Sydney artist Baden Pailthorpe will be launching his first self-published book along with an exhibition of selected prints at:

Oh Really Gallery on Thursday, October 30th from 6-9pm.

55 Emore Road, Newtown

The show will continue until Thursday, November 6th.

A visual homage to Jack Kerouac’s Lonesome Traveler, Baden Pailthorpe’s work in Translocality chronicles his experiences as a traveler in countries such as Iran, Turkey and France from 2005-08. Flirting with questions of place and temporality, the sweet melancholy of Pailthorpe’s photographs is a tribute to the wonderment and loneliness that follows a lonesome traveler’s alienated interaction with exotic cultures and places. Informed by his graffiti background, Pailthorpe realises a painterly aesthetic within his photography that distinguishes it from the normative, documentary style photography. In this, the photographs in Translocality allude to an ephemeral domain of memories, dreams and sentiments that elude documentation, haunting the traveler and the viewer through and beyond his voyage.

Baden Pailthorpe is currently undertaking a Master of Art at the College of Fine Arts UNSW. He continues to explore the imagery and conceptual content that he pursued through Translocality. His work has been exhibited in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth, and has been published both locally and internationally.
