SMC 3 Studio Shots
SMC3’s Show is on tonight, so in preparation I thought I’ll post up some shots of him working in his studio.
A place I know all too well. I’d spent many a night working on 1-2 pasteups an hour, 3 or 4 long necks as SMC had flogging molly on repeat the whole night. Viva la revolution Sunday Sessions. Something that started as SMC, Dogbrainz, Dam, and myself. Somehow turned into a gathering of about 15-20 people, all there for the common cause of street art.
Sunday Sessions ended, but something stronger came out of it, an ever growing community of artists. So come along and see the work of the grandfather of Sydneys ‘Movement’.
SMC3 work for this show is a tribute to his roots of street art. Repitition, a lot of street artists develop a style then repeat, loop. Reaching a wide area means that not everyone will see all your pieces, and repeating an image makes it easier to do 20 hand made posters in a night. A result of this is a style thats clean, hand made work that almost looks digital, it could be a stencil, except for the posca strokes on the paper. Like practising your hand writing, street artists practise their symbols, characters, sculptures, etc…
To continue with this tribute, SMC3 has also hung a series of black and white pieces, simple but effective, like his street art roots. Experimenting with new charcters for this series.
Opens 6pm-9pm wed 9th Sept
Exhibition runs until 16th Sept
